Day-by-Day Expedition Itinerary. Note: Dives and excursions depend on weather conditions. This is a real expedition and we stay flexible to ensure guest safety. Day 1: Outbound Journey - We depart Scandinavia and board our overnight flights to Durban on the eastern coast of South Africa. Day 2: Durban to Sodwana Bay - Land in Durban, meet up with Shaun Humphries and pile into our private ground transfer heading north. Arrive at Sodwana Bay Dive Lodge for check-in, crew introductions and a gear briefing. Days 3–8: Sodwana Bay - Enjoy six days of twice-daily boat dives in the Indian Ocean. You will begin on Day 3 by checking your weights and buoyancy before spending the week exploring Sodwana’s diverse underwater terrain, including pristine reefs, nutrient-rich channels teeming with Rays, Turtles, Pelagic life and unique macro-biodiversity hot spots. Between dives, you will have opportunities to explore the local town or relax at the lodge. Day 9: Big 5 Safari (Hluhluwe National Park) - A full land-based day to "bubble out" and let our bodies off-gas. We'll take an early morning transfer to Hluhluwe National Park for a full-day guided safari in open 4x4 vehicles tracking Lions, Leopards, Rhinos, Elephants and buffalo. Day 10: Homeward Journey - We check out after breakfast and transfer back to Durban International Airport for our return flights to Scandinavia. Savage Travel Co is a non-profit travel club. We are an information portal, not a travel organiser or a travel agent as defined by the Swedish Package Travel Act (Paketreselagen).
Our Role
Referral Only: Savage Travel Co provides information and direct links to established travel providers. We do not process, hold, or collect payments for travel services.
Contractual Relationship: When you book a trip or internship, your legal contract and all payments are made directly with the third-party service provider. Savage Travel Co is not a party to that contract.
Travel Guarantees & Protection
Your protection depends on where the provider is registered:
Swedish Providers: Bookings with Swedish-registered companies are protected under the Swedish Travel Guarantee Act (Resegarantilagen).
South African Providers: Bookings with South African companies (outside the EEA) are not covered by the Swedish Travel Guarantee. In the event of provider insolvency, you are not entitled to a refund from the Swedish state.
Risk & Insurance
Scuba diving and international travel involve inherent risks. By using the links on this site, you acknowledge that:
Savage Travel Co is not liable for any injury, loss, death, or financial damage resulting from your booking or participation in a trip.
You are responsible for verifying the safety standards and certifications of any provider.
Mandatory Action: We strongly recommend that all club members obtain comprehensive travel and diving insurance (e.g., DAN) that includes "Insolvency of Provider" coverage.
Non-Profit & No Personal Data
Savage Travel Co makes no profit and receives no personal data from your bookings. We provide this service in our spare time for the love of diving.
At Savage Travel Co, transparency is our priority. Your legal protections depend on where the travel provider is registered. Because we are a travel club, your contract is always directly with the service provider.
1. When Booking with Swedish-Registered Companies
If the provider you book with is a Swedish company (e.g., for local dive courses or trips), you have the highest level of protection:
The Travel Guarantee (Resegaranti): These trips are covered by the Swedish Travel Guarantee Act. If the Swedish company becomes insolvent, you can apply for a refund or repatriation through Kammarkollegiet.
Swedish Package Travel Act: You benefit from all EU-standard rights, including the right to transfer your booking, price protection, and the provider's duty to assist you if things go wrong.
2. When Booking with South African-Registered Companies
If you book directly with our partners based in South Africa (outside the EEA):
No Swedish Guarantee: These trips are not covered by the Swedish Travel Guarantee (Resegaranti). If the provider goes out of business, the Swedish state system cannot provide a refund.
Global Rights: While the South African companies we partner with are reputable, the legal framework of South Africa applies to your contract, not the EU Package Travel Directive.
Our Recommendation: We strongly advise ensuring your travel insurance includes "Insolvency of Provider" and comprehensive medical/diving cover for all international travel.
